Off to Eastern Oregon

Gina, Lacey, Hannah and I headed out into the wild wilderness, also known as, Joseph, Oregon. We rented a beautiful new cabin at Wallowa Lake offered by Flying Arrow Resort.
We had a great time visiting and hiking at the top of Mt. Howard at 8,200 ft level. Gina and Hannah went on an hour long horseback ride into the mountains near the lake. They saw waterfalls and beautiful views of the mountains and valley on their ride.

The water temperature of the lake was very cold for swimming but the girls all managed to get some exposure to it. We also went fishing one day. Hannah caught six trout with her magic fishing pole and glass bobber. She was just using worms and the trout loved it. A deer was gently nibbling at some tender shrubs on the side of the river bank as we were fishing. The girls also got to see a bald eagle on a walk down by the lake. Fun time!

Feb 2009- Oregon Coast-

We had a family getaway this past weekend to Rockaway on the Oregon coast. We rented a house that we had stayed in twice before. The house sits right on the beach and has been more than comfortable for our family of 14. We had great food and good conversation. Had lots of fun with my nieces and nephew.

Where to go for my 1st 2009 getaway????

Wow, a new year to look forward too! I always enjoy the Oregon coast during the winter. You never know what you might find on the beach after a good storm. I am going to need to be cost conscious so will be checking out the web for a real steal. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I prefer beach front accommodations but if the price is right, anything else would be great!

Well Sunriver delivered everything we were looking for. We stayed in Rouge 16 offered by ReMax. I recommend it for up to 2 couples and 2 children. Bikes were available and home offered a nice Hot tub to relax our weary bones after a day of site seeing, hiking and bike riding. Also has wireless connection so bring your laptop to download all those pictures.

We spent one day traveling to Crater Lake which is about 70 miles south of Sunriver. Nice roads and beautiful scenery. We picked up a bicylist on our way up to the lake. She had taken a wrong turn and lost her party. Needless to say, we saved her some grief and we did our good samaritan duty for the day.

We also hiked Bendham falls which is near Lava Lands. Great views of the Deshuttes river along the way so need you camera. A couple miles ahead, you get a good look at how the Deshuttes has carved it's way through the Lava flows.

We also had to check out the mall in Bend to see if it had anything they don't have anywhere else. The answer is yes.. No crowds. Maybe it was because school was back in session but we had the place to ourselves. Did not buy much but we wasted some time there.

All in all, It was great to be with my daughters and share this time together. Pictures coming soon so check back!

McKinney Girls Getaway to Sunriver, OR

I have just nine more work days before my summer vacation with my daughters. We are headed to Sunriver Oregon for a short stint of bicycle riding, hot-tubing and who knows, maybe some white water rafting. I am so looking forward to this vacation. Just getting away for awhile can sure change your outlook on life. That is just what I need.
